Join the grassroots campaign to elect an activist organizer and first African-American male to be elected to the Champaign County Clerk’s Office!

The office is close to campus and a time commitment of 10-12 hours per week is needed.  All majors are eligible to apply and we have a strong interest in students from the following majors: Political Science, Communication, New Media, Marketing, Economics, Public Policy & Law, African American Studies, Latina/Latino Studies, Journalism, and Gender & Women’s Studies, Asian-American Studies.

Available Positions

Communications and Media Aide

This position will focus on organizing and facilitating the campaign efforts online through consistent presence and engagement with various social media platforms, website content, email newsletters and updates.

Responsibilities include:

  • develop content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and website

  • write and format newsletters

  • develop, plan, and execute issue-based social media campaigns

  • research other campaign’s social media, websites, and newsletters for effective communication strategies

Requirements of the position:

  • 8 - 10 hours per week

    • 30 minutes bi-weekly for individual supervision meeting

    • 7 hours on various social media tasks (75% complete in the office)

    • 3 hours attending and acting as a staff assistant for campaign functions

  • experience working with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and basic website platforms

  • strong writing and editing skills

  • experienced in researching issues quickly but accurately

  • knowledgeable in correct citation of secondary sources

Field and Data Aide

This position focuses on the most fundamental aspect of a campaign-- securing the vote through various outreach methods.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Door to door canvassing

  • Phone banking

  • Data management

  • Coordinating Volunteers

  • Event Staffing

  • Voter Registration Outreach

Requirements of this position:

  • 8 - 10 hours per week

    • 30 minutes bi-weekly for individual supervision meeting

    • 6 hours assisting the Field Director by strategizing, organizing, and executing events  (75% completed in office)

    • 3 hours in event staffing, training of volunteers, and daily/weekly canvassing or phone banking

  • Detail-oriented, strong organizational and communication skills

  • General knowledge of data management systems (excel, word, VAN (not required, but preferred))
